The Grounds
GARDEN + ORCHARD
The Grounds at Neversink Retreat are both cultivated and a little wild. Our growing orchard includes more than 30 fruit trees—apples, pears, peaches, plums, and pluots—alongside established highbush blueberries and wild berry bushes throughout the property.
Nearby, our seasonal garden is planted with a rotating mix of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Guests are welcome to see what’s growing, pick what’s ripe, and enjoy a small taste of the Catskills landscape during their stay.
The orchard and gardens continue to evolve each season as we add new plantings and work toward creating a diverse, edible landscape across the property.
15 acres to explore
Neversink Retreat sits on 15 private acres, with plenty of room to wander and explore. Three acres surrounding the house are fully fenced, with three access gates to the surrounding property and a gated entrance at the driveway—giving dogs plenty of room to roam.
Beyond the gates, paths wind through blueberry patches and woods before leading down to the creek. Follow the trails, explore the property, or find a quiet spot along the water to sit and take it all in.
Country road
Tucked away on a quiet dead-end road, surrounded by wild apple trees and just a handful of neighbors, Neversink Retreat offers peaceful bike rides and country walks with glimpses of wildlife and local farm life along the way.
For a more invigorating walk, head up the hill for sweeping views that stretch for miles. It’s a peaceful corner of the Catskills where even a simple walk down the road feels like part of the escape.
Wildlife
The fields, woods, gardens, and creek provide habitat for wildlife throughout the property. Robins and songbirds gather on the lawn and nest nearby, while hawks and eagles can often be spotted overhead. Deer, wild turkeys, and other Catskills visitors regularly make their way through the grounds.
We provide binoculars and bird guides so guests can slow down, look a little closer, and see who else is sharing the property.
4 Seasons on the Grounds
The grounds are designed to be enjoyed year-round, with a landscape that changes throughout the seasons. More than 50 varieties of trees, along with flowering shrubs, native plants, wildflowers, meadows, and perennial gardens, create an ever-changing backdrop.
Spring brings fruit-tree blossoms, magnolias, and Eastern redbuds, followed by lilacs and peonies as the property fills with color.
Summer is lush and abundant, with wildflowers, perennial gardens, berries, and the vegetable garden all in season.
Fall is one of the most spectacular times to visit. Birch, oak, maple, and beech trees create layers of autumn color across the property, while the blueberry bushes turn brilliant shades of red.
Winter brings a quieter beauty. With the leaves down, the woods and creek become easier to explore, making it one of our favorite seasons for hiking. When the snow is deep enough, guests can use the snowshoes and sleds provided at the house and experience the property in an entirely different way.
